Hideo Kojima and his best friend forever, Norman Reedus, presented a new trailer for Death Stranding at The Game Awards tonight, and it was a gooey, macabre delight. We still don’t know when Kojima Productions will release the game, but we do know it will have a baby in it.

This whole time, I secretly believed that eventually, we’d all just find out that the game is about Kojima, Reedus, and the great Dane, Mads Mikkelsen, going on a road trip. But not so: We learned in this trailer that there are invisible monsters that can detect humans when they breathe.

And if they catch you, it’s a fate apparently worst than death — a fact demonstrated by Reedus’s redshirt friend floating away while desperately trying to stab himself into oblivion before getting eaten (absorbed? assimilated? hugged?) by some giant Attack on Titan-looking creature standing in the distance.

But I’ll back up. The trailer starts with Reedus lying on the ground wearing clothes for some reason. An accident has occurred and three other people are with him — one turns into a wiggly mummified kind of thing after getting sprayed by acid (or gold leaf?) in the face. Another’s pinned under a car and the fourth is trying to rescue him.

An invisible monster arrives and everyone holds their breath. Then Reedus’s friend realizes that they’re completely surrounded by tall shadowy figures. Everything starts floating, but not before Reedus’s friend tosses him a baby in a jar. Suddenly, everyone’s underwater, and Reedus opens his mouth and there’s a baby in his throat.

And then we all woke up! What a weird dream, right?

Those were the broad strokes of the trailer. I can’t wait for the next one.

And I still think that road trip thing is happening, by the way.
