Update 3 at 11:30 a.m. on December 9: Xbox Live continues to have intermittent problems.

Xbox One owners and PC players are encountering connection errors with the Xbox Live service, according to a number of complaints on social media. Microsoft has also updated its Xbox Live status site to confirm problems for some of its Forza games, but the outage has also taken Call of Duty: WWII, Fortnite, Rainbow Six: Siege, and other online multiplayer experiences offline.

For now, the connectivity issues aren’t affecting everyone. Many people are able to get connected without any problem. That said, I attempted to lot into Call of Duty: WWII on my Xbox One X, and I got the following error message:

“Communication with the Xbox Live servers has been interrupted.”

What’s curious is that the Xbox Live disruption is not affecting my video services. Netflix worked fine. Typically, for outages like this, nearly all games and apps would fail to load if Xbox Live servers were offline.

Update 1 at 11:00 a.m. on December 7: Xbox Live is back up and running for most people.

Update 2 at 11:31 a.m. on December 7: Problems have returned for some games as the outage is striking intermittently.
