900 million. That’s how many monthly users Facebook is seeing thanks to its Messenger platform.

What was once a private messaging feature for Facebook has ballooned into its own successful platform with no signs of popping anytime soon. Unsurprisingly, Facebook intends to grow Messenger further with the utilization of chatbots: the rising star of 2016.

Top news media sites like CNN and The Wall Street Journal have already hopped onboard the bot train to expand their audience, and Disney’s billion-dollar grossing film Zootopia launched a chatbot starring the film’s furry heroine, Officer Judy Hopps, to promote the home video release.

Alongside Facebook, messaging app Kik is home to big-name publishers and brands like Buzzfeed, The Washington Post, and NBC News, with over 300 million users to boot. The Japanese messenger app Line has also become an attractive platform for publishers — like The Wall Street Journal, which has now acquired over 2 million followers on the platform and it’s become WSJ’s fastest-growing social channel.

Retail and travel brands are quickly entering the space with entrants from Sephora, Expedia, Taco Bell, Staples, Shopify, BurgerKing, and Bank of America.

The takeaway from all this is that consumers are hungry for interaction, and we’re at the point where technology can successfully impersonate a live conversation as if you were chatting with your best friend online. This is only the beginning, as social media sites like Facebook are dedicated to continuing the advancements of these intelligent bots for improved engagements with consumers.

For brands and publishers looking to better connect with their audience, the bot revolution is underway, and those brands wanting to be part of this next major disruption need to understand how to do it.

But while bots are increasingly becoming a part of the business landscape, brands and publishers shouldn’t jump in blindly in the hopes of connecting with today’s consumers. They need to understand what makes chatbots appealing to users, how to utilize them to their fullest, and where the pitfalls lie. In this live event, our panel of experts will discuss what smart companies are doing with their bots, and how companies can use them to connect even more immediately, and successfully, with customers.
