Electronic health records (EHR) vendor Athenahealth continues adding to the lineup of platforms and applications in its More Disruption Please (MDP) accelerator program for startups developing new cloud-based technologies that might improve health care delivery.
One of the most recent additions is Ingenious Med, whose product is used by health providers to capture charges at the point of care, and also to help various members of the caregiving team to coordinate activities.
Ingenious Med tells VentureBeat that Athenahealth will actively market the technology to its roughly 59,000 health provider customers around the country.
The system can, for example, extract a list of high-risk patients from a hospital’s Athenahealth EHR, then provide a communications platform for the various nurses, doctors, and specialists who might care for those patients.
The platform can provide caregivers with the appropriate patient care protocols, and the services delivered are captured and fed into the facility’s billing systems.
“We seek to increase the quality of care and lower costs through automation at the point-of-care,” said Ingenious Med CEO S. Hart Williford. “Partnering with Athenahealth gives us greater opportunity to move the dial industry-wide.”
Athenahealth says it was Ingenious Med’s focus on integration and interoperability that made it a good fit for the MDP program.
“Ingenious Med’s solutions are integral to our outpatient providers that also round in the inpatient setting,” said Athenahealth’s VP of business development Kyle Armbrester in a statement. “The integrated solution guarantees that charges are seamlessly and quickly billed through Athenahealth.”
