When web sites go down because of hacker attacks, the site owners often have no clue what is happening. Armorize Technologies’ HackAlert, unveiled at DEMOfall 09, immediately notifies subscribers if their web sites are under attack or have been compromised already.
It will also tell you if your site has been hijacked by malware and has been turned into a distributor of malicious software, infecting the users who visit your site. HackAlert will automatically scan your web site to identify malicious code that has been injected. It will note if someone has inserted a link that redirects users to a malicious site.
The company says the real-time tool is especially critical for information technology administrators who have to monitor a site at all times. It gives reports on so-called “drive by download” incidents where the net cost could be horrendous for small companies. Isn’t it too bad we live in a world where this kind of tool is necessary? Sigh.
On stage, Matt Huang (pictured right), chief operating officer at Armorize, showed how the product worked as it scoured a web site with 40 pages. It identifies the type of malware that it detectds on the site and highlights the line of code. That code can be analyzed by companion software, SmartWAF, and then removed by another tool, Code Secure.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based Armorize received a second round of funding this year from investors including Ambient Sound Investments, Birch Venture Capital, and the company’s own angel investors. Armorize has one customer in Japan that is using the software to protect 60 web sites.
