Microsoft to buy Teleo, a San Francisco VoIP company? According to scoopster Om Malik, a deal is in the works. Everyone else is buying VoIP (Yahoo bought Dialpad), so why not?

CEO Peter Sisson, you may recall, was the founder and CEO of WineShopper.com, the outrageous attempt to end-run the wine establishment which crashed after the Internet bubble burst, and which burned through $180 million in venture capital.

Somehow we figured Peter Sisson would be back. When we spoke with him in April 2001, he was broke, looking for a job. Brokers had made margin calls on his stock portfolio, which had plunged to $10,000 from more than $100,000. He’d put his 160 acres of land in Sonoma — including 25 acres ready for grape vines — up for sale. (At least he was drinking champagne again in February.)

Om, though, says he may have now left Teleo.

Om adds: Teleo adds VoIP to the communications tools already being used by Windows users cell phones, email, and web browsers. You can receive calls on a PC, or answer them on your cell phone. By clicking on an email address and you can be connected to the person who sent it, if they have VoIP capability
