Jeff Huber Google

The wheels of Google drama just don’t stop turning this week! Seriously, our reporters are having a hard time keeping up. Plus, they’re just straight-up distraught about some of this stuff.

“They’re killing Reader? I’M SITTING SHIVA.”

Andy Rubin left Android? THE WORLD AS I KNOW IT IS OVER.”

“Google is getting rid of ad block apps? YOU BASTARDS!

“Wait, Google’s mapping and commerce divisions are splitting up? I … I can’t. I just can’t take any more of this.”

So it is with weary hearts and tired fingers that we type out the most recent signals from the Mountain View smokestack: Google’s mapping unit is now going to be part of the web search division, and the commerce team will join the advertising group within the company.

It kind of makes sense, actually. We’re just too tired and emotional to take it very well.

The Wall Street Journal moreover reports that Google SVP Jeff Huber (pictured above) once the company’s czar of local/commerce/etc., will now join the skunkworks insanity known as Google X, aka the Sergey Brin Club of Doom, where employees work on bizarre, forward-thinking projects like Google Glass.

In closing, we take special note of the fact that just last year, Google’s vice president of local, maps, and location services — where a lot of location and commerce features came together — was the dear, departed Ms. Marissa Mayer.
