Google chief executive Sundar Pichai today announced that this year’s big Google I/O developer conference will be hosted at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, on May 18-20.

There’s some meaning behind the location.

“To celebrate our 10th anniversary of developer gatherings, we’ll be hosting I/O in our backyard at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA from May 18th-20th,” Pichai wrote in a Google+ post. “We’ll have 3 full days together to dive deep into developer content, code labs, and more.”

Shoreline is a widely known concert venue that sits 22,500. So there will be plenty of room for attendees — more room than the Moscone West facility in San Francisco where I/O has taken place in the past few years.

Pichai did not say when registration will begin.

Of course, the event will be livestreamed, and we’ll be offering coverage throughout.

Update on March 1: Registration for this year’s Google I/O begins on March 8, according to the website for the event.
