Almost 10 months after announcing the departure of longtime Chief Financial Officer George Reyes, Google has finally selected a replacement — Patrick Pichette, President of Operations at Bell Canada.

Google initially said Reyes would leave by the end of 2007, but Pichette won’t start his new job until the beginning of August, and won’t officially take over the CFO spot from Reyes until August 12. It’s not clear why the search took so long, but Google’s finances seem to be doing just fine, thanks, despite the uncertainty.

Pichette joined Bell Canada in 2001, where he also served as the CFO from 2002 until the end of 2003. Before that, he worked as a partner at McKinsey and Company and CFO at Canadian telecom company Call-Net Enterprises. Outside his financial qualifications, Pichette was also a Rhodes Scholar and serves as board chairman for Engineers Without Borders (Canada).
