My latest feature for The New York Times, Taming Twitter’s Stream With an Automated Web Site, runs in Thursday’s newspaper. But you can read it online now.

How do you figure out who to follow? Start with a sweeping generalization: Twitter users can be grouped into different categories. For each, there is an automated site somewhere that lets you follow the genre without having to find and follow dozens, or even hundreds, of individual Twitter streams.

I explain how to track celebrities, stay on top of local politics, find pretty pictures, keep up with the geeks, and most importantly, get lunch on time. All without having to hunt down individual Twitter streams yourself. Let the machines — and a few obsessive curators — do it for you.
