There are plenty of file backup and sharing services out there, but a company called Nomadesk has been trying to stand out recently by adding novel, easy ways to share your content. The latest addition is the Nomadesk widget, which customers can embed on their site to share their documents with team members, partners, or the general public.
You can see chief executive Filip Tack demonstrate the creation of a Nomadesk widget in the video below. Basically, users just right-click the folder they want to share, select the “embed on your site” option, make a few more formatting choices, then get some HTML that they can copy onto their site, the same way they could with a video from YouTube or a document from Scribd. In the video, Tack created a “press room” with content for reporters such as logos, press releases, and images, and if you visit the Nomadesk press page, you can see that press room for real.
Granted, uploading and sharing documents on a website isn’t rocket science, but the advantage is that as you update the folder on your desktop, the widget gets updated too, without any additional work from you. Plus, the files and folders are presented in an easy-to-navigate layout, and you can take advantage of Nomadesk’s unlimited space.
Nomadesk costs $15 per month per file server. The company has raised about $4.75 million in funding. Other recent features include FolderLink, where a user just clicks on a folder they’d like to share, then sends the resulting link to anyone they want to share it with.
