Reddit CEO Steve Huffman announced an update to the company’s content policy.

In the announcement, Huffman detailed a new “quarantining” method of community management that he’d alluded to over the past week:

One new concept is Quarantining a community, which entails applying a set of restrictions to a community so its content will only be viewable to those who explicitly opt in. We will Quarantine communities whose content would be considered extremely offensive to the average redditor.

In addition to using these quarantines, Huffman also said Reddit will be handling more nefarious subreddits by outright banning them. Some of the most infamous (and their offspring) have already been banned, including /r/CoonTown, /r/WatchNiggersDie, /r/bestofcoontown, /r/koontown, /r/CoonTownMods, and /r/CoonTownMeta.
