Security ratings company BitSight Technologies just picked up a small Portugal-based threat intelligence company called AnubisNetworks.

AnubisNetworks determines what kind of malware is infecting a system and what the risks are to the overall network by aggregating and analyzing data from a given network as well as from outside data sources. Its product, Cyberfeed, is a real-time threat intelligence live stream that show companies where vulnerabilities exist.

AnubisNetworks also collects data from around the web to see where information has been leaked.

The tool will allow BitSight to give companies a more detailed security rating. “We need high quality reliable data,” said chief technology officer Stephen Boyer. He said AnubisNetworks’ cache of rich data will help give the company’s clients a holistic look at the interplay between hackers and defenders.

BitSight also saw an opportunity to offer a competitive edge in the security IT market. Whereas previously the company could rate a company based on potential vulnerabilities, Anubis’ technology will allow BitSight to give more precise ratings to its clients and more detailed information about machines that have been compromised.

Founded in 2011, BitSight has received $25 million in funding to date.
