Teneros’s Social Sentry may just be the lowly office worker’s worst nightmare. The software, unveiled today at the Demo Spring 2010 conference, enables companies to easily track their employees when they visit social sites like Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.
While such a solution won’t make employees happy, it gives businesses a way to potentially eliminate corporate risks related to compliance, sensitive information leaks, human resources issues, legal exposure, and brand damage. Social sentry offers real-time tracking, and can track employee communication from anywhere, including within the corporate network and public internet.
Social Sentry differs from network monitoring solutions like Websense and Bluecoat by being able to track employee behavior on social networks outside of the corporate network. Since employees could still potentially share sensitive information about companies while at home, a good social tracking solution will need to keep track of activity outside of the work network. It also differs from brand monitoring solutions like Radian 6 and Sysomos, which are more marketing oriented and don’t offer employee-level tracking.
Based in Mountain View, Calif., Teneros has raised $92.5 over five rounds of funding since 2004.
