The National Association of Realtors’ Pending Home Sales Index, a leading indicator of housing activity, is on the rise. With housing activity heating up, it’s no surprise that Trulia, a real estate search engine, today released its upgraded iPhone application and new mobile version of its web site.
Trulia is a free service with no registration required that provides home buyers and real estate professionals with key real estate data and the ability to search through some 3.5 million homes for sale. The companies new mobile version — accessible at http://m.trulia.com — can be accessed from any device with internet and is set up to improve user experience. Whether looking for price reduced properties or information on housing trends, the new mobile version is designed to help with overall search and efficiency.
For those of you with iPhones or one of the 300,000 to download the previous application, Trulia has released some upgrades, including moveable maps, price reduction search and bigger unlimited pictures.
For the visual searcher, movable maps allows the user to toggle and find homes in selected areas as well as update search preferences directly from the map. Expanding the most popular web site feature, price reduction search now lets users search for price reduced homes in their areas. For those that struggle with small images, bigger pictures now provide searchers with a more realistic view of properties. In addition, Trulia has integrated with the Layer Mobile Augmented Reality Browser. People will now be able to use their cameras to scan area properties and visually see the listings on their screens.
There are several companies that have similar tools for searching real estate. For the mobile web, realtor.com lists over 3.8 million homes and gives you similar search preferences and listing formats. For iPhone apps, RedFin and Zillow are the closest competitors — all offering similar functions. Depending on format and feel, you might like one more than the others.
With more than 500,000 searches conducted in November alone, Trulia’s new mobile version and iPhone app upgrades will be key to continued growth and use for the housing market. The market is heating up and people will be looking for tools to aid in their searches.
