Tomorrow, the first-ever Viralheat Blogathon will take place in San Francisco. I’ll be helping to judge more than 50 contestants, who will be competing to write the best possible blog post — which will then appear here on VentureBeat.

This is a great way to get your writing noticed, and it’s a chance to highlight your company, if you can do it in a way that provides value to a wide range of readers.

I’ll be judging posts using the same criteria we apply to guest posts. In short, I’m looking for: Relevance and usefulness. Concision. Originality and expertise. And no self-promotion!

The best guest posts on VentureBeat are provocative, practical, or both. That’s what I’m hoping to find tomorrow.

Put on by social media marketing company Viralheat, the Blogathon is modeled after the hackathons held in the Bay Area and worldwide in which developers compete to see who can create the best app or solve the toughest computing problem in a day. But why should programmers have all the fun? Bloggers can be as competitive as any computer hacker.

I hope to see you tomorrow night. And may the best writer win.

There’s still time to enter! Click on the Blogathon image below to visit the site and sign up.
