Virtual pin board Pinterest has just acquired local recommendation service Livestar, the company announced today.
Rolling in the best parts of Foursquare, Metacritic, and Yelp, Livestar’s app lets you see reviews for restaurants, movies, and music from reputable sources such as newspapers, local news blogs, Facebook friends, or people in your contact list. It previously had aspirations of adding new recommendation categories for TV shows, apps, books, clothes, and more, as VentureBeat’s Sean Ludwig reported back in July.
Pinterest said it plans to bring the Livestar engineering team on board in the next few weeks. The only exception will be former CEO and founder Fritz Lanman, who won’t join Pinterest but will remain on as an adviser.
“We think the Livestar team is a natural fit for Pinterest because of their commitment to inspiring people to do things in their everyday lives through social and expert recommendations,” Pinterest said in a statement emailed to VentureBeat.
While financial terms of the sale were not disclosed, Livestar did previously raise $2 million in funding from an all-star list of investors, including SV Angel, Chernin Group, Morado Ventures, Ray Ozzie, Matt Mullenweg, Don Mattrick, Max Ventilla, Hunter Walk, Mike Slade, and Charles Songhurst.
