Flappy Bird will fly again someday, says creator, but Apple might clip its wings

Whether you rejoice or mourn at the news, Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen has confirmed that he plans to bring the once-hot game back. That is, if he even can.

In a response to a fan’s question on Twitter, Nguyen tweeted that he plans to bring his one-hit wonder of a mobile game back from the dead, “but not soon.” While he suggested in an interview with Rolling Stone that he was considering rereleasing Flappy Bird, this is the first time that he has confirmed his agenda with a definite yes.

Even if Nguyen is set on reviving Flappy Bird, it may never again make it to Apple’s App Store thanks to the company’s policy that forbids developers from restoring a deleted application. Android’s Google Play Store has no similar rule. By deleting Flappy Bird, Nguyen forfeited his right to use its name on the App Store, and another developer has already taken it. GamesBeat talked to the chief executive of Mobile Media Partners, which now apparently owns the Flappy Bird name on Apple’s store.
