The online-based Guild Launch is adding more services to help people connect with their gaming friends, and that led the people in charge of the service to decide to change the name.

Guild Launch is now Gamer Launch. The rebranding comes as the team/clan-hosting and management service expands to add support for additional genres of games. While the site previously had over 4 million members who use the site to work together in games that require cooperative play, Gamer Launch is hoping to increase that number by adding new features. The site’s new capabilities are specifically targeted at multiplayer online arena battlers like League of Legends, Dota 2, and Smite as well as the popular Minecraft block-building game.

“Guild Launch has always been extremely popular with MMO players, with hundreds of thousands of active guilds hosted on our platform,” Gamer Launch founder and president Stephen Johnston said. “But in recent years we’ve seen a significant influx of players from a variety of other gaming communities, including MOBAs and Minecraft. The revamped Gamer Launch site introduces a slew of new features specifically designed for players of games like League of Legends, DOTA 2, Minecraft and, of course, Smite.”

Gamer Launch is now working directly with Smite developer Hi-Rez Studios, and the site is the official clan-hosting partner for the game. Smite, which is widely recognized as the third most popular MOBA, could play a big part in bringing more gamers to Johnston’s revamped service.

In addition to Smite, Gamer Launch has worked out deals to host clans for Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls Online and developer Artix Entertainment’s AdventureQuest Worlds.

Guild Launch is one of the products of Launch Media Network, which also provides publishing platforms and analytics tools for developers. Launch has raised $3 million in funding over the last two years with primary participation from investment firm CLR Partners.
