Strong brands help mobile games, but super brands are even better.

The mobile action-RPG Marvel Future Fight has passed 20 million downloads just two months after releasing, counting both its iOS and Android versions. According to App Annie, it reached the top spot in daily downloads in over 40 countries in May, including the U.S. and South Korea. This makes it a hit in a mobile market that could be worth $30 billion this year, according to research firm Newzoo. This also shows how brands can make the difference in finding players — and in users finding your app in the first place.

Marvel is an incredibly hot brand right now, so it’s no surprise to see any free-to-play mobile game with its name on it do well.

“As long as Marvel movies continue to rank among the world’s highest grossing films, we won’t be surprised to see this pattern of success for Marvel IPs continue on mobile,” reads an App Annie report on May’s top mobile games. “More generally, mobile games that feature well-known Hollywood IPs have continued to perform exceptionally well throughout the years, even as the mobile gaming landscape has changed.”
