Developer Torn Banner Studios is teaming up with television network Spike to create a new expansion for its popular online multiplayer battler Chivalry: Medieval Warfare based on the Deadliest Warrior program.

Chivalry: Deadliest Warrior pits players against one another as a samurai, Spartan, and other fighters. The expansion also introduces new maps and multiteam battles. Torn Banner didn’t reveal a price or release date.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first-person team-deathmatch game that has players swinging swords, axes, and more in chaotic multiplayer battles. Up to this point, Torn Banner’s game only featured European military units from the Middle Ages.

The Deadliest Warrior content will add units in addition to the samurai and Spartans, but the developer is staying quiet about those details for now.

Deadliest Warrior was a TV program that ran on the Spike network from 2009 through 2011. Each episode would pit two groups of warriors against one another, like Pirate versus knight or Viking versus Samurai. The show would then perform tests and determine a winner based on the results.

Spike canceled the show in 2012.

This isn’t Deadliest Warrior‘s first video game tie-in. Spike released a tower defense game called Deadliest Warrior: Defend and Conquer for iOS in 2010. In 2009, Pipeworks Software released a downloadable game based on the show titled Deadliest Warrior: The Game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. In 2011, Spike Games released a sequel to Deadliest Warrior: The Game called Deadliest Warrior: Legends for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
