The PC modding community is pretty darn clever.

Mortal Kombat X modder and Reddit user XVermillion has managed to make three additional characters available in NetherRealm’s recently released fighting game, reports Eurogamer. All three — Rain, Baraka, and Sindel — appear in the main game as characters you fight against, and XVermillion discovered their character model and move files. He switched these around with existing characters to make them playable.

Mortal Kombat X has already attracted attention for including controversial microtransactions in a full-price release. Series fans will be upset if NetherRealm has held these characters back as additional paid-for unlockable content on top of the $30 season pass.

“I backed up the files for Shinnok — the character I’m replacing — and renamed Rain’s files to match those associated with Shinnok’s first costume slot,” explained XVermillion on Reddit, “and moved ’em to the folder and overwrote Shinnok’s old files with the newly renamed Rain files.”
