Gaming-related video is hugely popular on the Web, and now one of the competitors in that space is making a deal to grow its reach.
Plays.tv, the video division of Raptr, announced today that it is partnering with Wargaming to provide recorded clips of esports matches for games like World of Tanks (although livestreams will still be on Twitch). Starting tomorrow with the Wargaming League North America Season 1 Finals tomorrow, players will use the Plays.tv client to record their play. After the match, the WGLNA page on Plays.tv will feature videos from each players perspective along with edited highlights.
This is part of Plays.tv’s wider strategy, which is all about building a video hub for gamers. Video content is worth a lot of money to the companies that control it — especially in the esports space. Marketers love reaching the young men between the ages of 13 and 34 who spend hours watching competitive gaming, and Plays.tv wants a piece of that. By working with Wargaming — as well as pros who play Counter-Strike, League of Legends, and more — Plays.tv could still establish itself as a must-visit site for esports enthusiasts.
Plays.tv points out that this is a long-term deal it has made with Wargaming. This means that World of Tanks fans can count on getting highlights from esports matches on Plays.tv for at least the next year.
