Strategy-game developer Nival is looking to expand into global markets. The studio announced today that it raised $6 million in its Series A funding round to help pay for the costs of that expansion.
Venture-capital firm Almaz Capital led the round. This $6 million is in addition to seed funding from Nival founder Sergey Orlovskiy, Russian software company 1C (which publishes games), and Russian Internet company Mail.ru Group.
“Nival represents our classic investment profile, a top technical team formed by a Russian entrepreneur who has the ability to build a global business,” Almaz managing partner Alexander Galitsky said in a statement.
Nival is responsible for strategy titles like Blitzkrieg, Heroes of Might and Magic V, Silent Storm, and Etherlords. The studio is currently developing competitive strategy title Prime World and Prime World: Defenders, which is a tower-defense game with card-game elements.

As part of the investment, Almaz Capital general partner Pavel Bogdanov will join Nival’s board.
“By investing in Nival, we’re showing our trust into the company’s ability to deliver popular cross-platform strategy games,” said Bogdanov. “We like how Nival brings innovations to traditional game genres and creates supreme experience for its players.
