Sony is planning maintenance on PlayStation Network for next week, but its online gaming service needs some help right now.
PSN is down for many, according to scores of complaints on social media. PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 owners are reporting difficulty signing into the service to launch their games and some media apps. This means that players cannot boot up multiplayer shooters like Overwatch, but the outage is also affecting primarily single-player experiences that require a constant connection to a server.
We’ve reached out to Sony Interactive Entertainment for a statement about this outage, and we’ll update this story with any new information. For now, the official PSN status site has not updated to reflect this down time .
PSN and Xbox Live, Microsoft’s similar service for the Xbox One and Xbox 360, have had several connection issues in their history — although both have had more stability in recent months. In 2015, however, PSN went offline multiple times. Occasionally. those outages lasted for hours and sometimes even for days.
