A new console always fails or succeeds on the strength of its games, but that doesn’t stop shallow gamers from judging a system based on its looks.
The U.K.’s Official Nintendo Magazine has a video comparing the Wii U to a Wii and a GameCube in terms of size and other specifications. Nintendo debut the Wii U on Nov. 18 in North America starting at $299.99.

The video, which features a suggestive synthesizer soundtrack and faux-artsy camerawork, spends six long minutes panning across and zooming in on the hardware. Size comparisons reveal that the Wii U is a bit wider and significantly longer than the original Wii. In fact, the system’s profile is reminiscent of the slim Xbox 360 model from Microsoft.
Official Nintendo Magazine also compared the Wii U GamePad to the 3DS XL. Unsurprisingly, the GamePad is much chunkier all around. Although that chunkiness could result from a focus on ergonomics.
The video didn’t compare the GamePad to an iPad or a PlayStation Vita, but I’m sure we’ll get plenty of those videos in the first weeks of the system’s launch.
