Tilting Point announced today it is acquiring a majority stake in Korean mobile game developer AN Games. With this acquisition, Tilting Point will help grow the developers’ successful games, including AstroKings. AN Games will continue to operate independently and is working on new games.

This is Tilting Point’s first major acquisition since it raised $235 million in 2021. The company operates on a “progressive publishing” model, in which it partners with developers, expanding their userbase over time. Tilting Point entered into a partnership with AN Games to scale AstroKings in January 2020.

Samir Agili, co-CEO and president of Tilting Point, said in an interview with GamesBeat that the AN Games deal proves the model: “The first step as a publisher is to prove to the developer you can make a difference… By the time we do the acquisition, we already know each other very well, and we work together in a certain way. Following the acquisition, that’s not going to change.”

Hwan-gi Kim, CEO of AN Games, said in a statement: “Arriving at a co-development stage has been a natural progression of our relationship. We admire and trust the Tilting Point expertise and look forward to being able to grow our studio’s impact even further.”

According to Agili, AN Games will benefit from the acquisition with Tilting Point’s ability to secure new IP for it to work on. The company is reportedly working on a new game at the moment. “The primary role of a publisher in general is we’re there to bring audiences to the games first. That’s what we spend most of our time building at Tilting Point.”
