Wikipad, the company making a gaming tablet with a controller add-on shell featuring analog sticks and buttons, announced today that retailers will start selling its 7-inch device, also called Wikipad, on June 11 for $249 in the U.S. and U.K.
The tablet is an Android-based machine with a Tegra 3 quad-core mobile processor. It has a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, 16 gigabytes of flash storage, and a lightweight chassis. The screen has an aspect ratio of 16:10. It also has a two-megapixel front-facing camera. It has HDMI out and a 12-core Nvidia graphics processing unit.
The tablet can access more than 700,000 apps on the Google Play store from Google Mobile Services, PlayStation Mobile games, and TegraZone. When the gamepad controller is detached, Wikipad can be used for surfing the web, emailing, watching movies, or listening to music. GamesBeat’s editor-in-chief Dan “Shoe” Hsu spent some time with the device and concluded that it was functional but crappy.
