Wargaming is bringing World of Tanks’ free-to-play combat to a new platform, hoping to add to its already impressive 150M player base.
World of Tanks is rolling out to PlayStation 4, with a beta test set to start before the end of the year. The multiplayer online game started out on PC and then expanded its reach to Xbox 360 in 2014 and Xbox One this summer. Now it’s coming to PlayStation 4 with exclusive content, the first outing for two new maps, and support for SharePlay, Remote Play, and livestreaming.
With PlayStation 4 still dominating console sales, it makes sense for Wargaming to link with Sony’s platform to help further expand its audience.
“We’re doing exceptionally good business on the Xbox — on both the 360 and the Xbox One — but for us it’s really exciting to be engaging with Sony to bring the game to the PS4,” Wargaming’s head of European marketing Keith Anderson told GamesIndustry.biz.

PlayStation 4 owners won’t need a PlayStation Plus membership in order to play World of Tanks, according to Anderson. Players on Sony’s platform will get a free premium tank with PS4-exclusive camoflage, and they’ll also be the first to play two new maps. PlayStation Plus subscribers will apparently get access to exclusive content and deals.
You can sign up to be part of the PS4 beta test over at the Wargaming website.
