Gaming videos make up some of the most popular content on YouTube, and one of the video site’s biggest networks is shaking things up to capture more of that audience.
BroadbandTV, the third-largest multichannel network (MCN) on YouTube, revealed today that it is rebooting its gaming business. As part of this rebrand, BBTV’s The Gamer Network will get nine new shows on YouTube and two live shows on Twitch. The company is also producing high-quality graphics that TGN creators can use to give their videos a professional look and feel. BBTV’s renewed interest in gaming content comes just a few months after The Walt Disney Company purchased Maker Studios, the biggest gaming-video network on YouTube, for $500 million. As an MCN, which provides funding and cross-promotion for YouTube creators in exchange for a cut of the ad revenue, TGN is trying to position itself as the next Maker.
“We know that serious gaming creators are aspirational, they want to be with a network that operates at the highest level,” BroadbandTV chief executive Shahrzad Rafati said. “Our goal is to build the ultimate ecosystem for gamers, and we’re making a broad range of investments into the TGN brand including a key focus on content and higher-end programming. We’re also building a stronger core destination for our community to engage and placing an increased focus on our partner experience team.”
BBTV says it will separate TGN from the competition by only producing game-related content. Maker Studios and other, similar YouTube networks often try to include all of “geek culture” under their brands. When Rafati says she wants to build something for gamers, that means specifically leaving out movies, comics, and other stuff those viewers may like.

While TGN is focusing on gamers, the company also wants to create a network that is attractive to up-and-coming video creators on YouTube.
“We’re creating a bigger tent for gamers at the new TGN,” head of network development Andrew Wall said. “Historically, we were known as the best network that would give aspiring gamers their start in the business. Now, our successful growth, rich industry knowledge, and tightened focus will significantly elevate TGN to becoming the number-one brand for the most serious gaming creators.”
BroadbandTV is already generating more than 2 billion views on its content every month. It also boasts more than 200 million subscribers across its 20,000 partner creators.
