Band tracking startup SongKick said it now has 10 million unique fans using the service every month, which works out to roughly four people per second.
SongKick, founded in London, calculated the number from both logged-in users who buy tickets and unregistered visitors, according to co-founder Ian Hogarth. Last November, this number was 8.5M. The site, launched in 2007, helps music-lovers around the world discover bands and learn when performances will be occurring in their towns.
The service didn’t disclose the number of its registered users. SongKick doesn’t reveal this number because it values the amount of people who actually use the site on a monthly basis as a stronger metric, Hogarth told VentureBeat
SongKick’s mobile strategy has driven much of the service’s growth. Six out of ten people now access the site from their phones or tablets. An update for SongKick’s mobile app, which will come later this week, will allow people to recommend bands to others, as well as make the ticketing purchasing process easier, Hogarth said.
The U.K.-based site also says its generated $100M worth of ticket revenue since launching – greatly aiding artists, which on average make more than 70 percent of their revenue from live performances. Thanks to SongKicks’s ticketing partnerships with companies like SoundCloud, Spotify, and Deezer, the company expects to double this amount by the end of 2014.
The company also expects to reach 15M monthly users by the year’s end, according to Hogarth. SongKick intends to increase these visitors through new partnerships with streaming services and continued word of mouth.
SongKick has raised $16.6M in funding to date. The latest funding came from a $10 Series B Round led by Sequoia Capital, the firm’s first-ever investment in the United Kingdom.
