Concert subscription service Jukely has announced that it’s going all-in with its monthly memberships, as it rolls out a major refresh of its iOS app and website.
For the uninitiated, Jukely is like a Netflix for live gigs — you can pay $25 per month and go to as many concerts as you like from the roster offered by Jukely. Up until now, anyone could also use Jukely to browse shows in any city, as it linked out to Ticketmaster for just about any show. Now, the company is looking to distance itself from third-party platforms altogether, and is focusing squarely on getting people to concerts through its own curated pool of gigs. There are hundreds of live shows available through Jukely, though users can only choose one per day. There is a more expensive subscription option that comes in at $45 per month, which gets both you and one other into a show.
Founded in 2012, Jukely has raised more than $12 million in funding since its inception, including an $8 million round back in April. Originally only available in New York, the platform has since expanded to 15 other U.S. conurbations, including Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle, while it made its international debut in June 2015 when it launched in London.
The new Jukely app and website have also been given a new set of features, including the ability to listen to tracks on Spotify and to get directions to the venue.
New shows are released within Jukely each day at 11 a.m., and spots must be snapped up by 5 p.m. on the day of the show.
Other notable startups have emerged in the ticketing/discovery app space. WillCall was one such company, which focused specifically on last-minute concert tickets — it was acquired by Ticketfly last year. London-based startup YPlan is aiming to build a billion-dollar business off the back of finding you things to do across the entire entertainment spectrum. But with its subscription-focused model, Jukely has taken a novel approach to attracting gig-goers.
“We’ve listened and learned a lot from our members,” said Bora Celik, Jukely CEO and cofounder. “Based on what we’ve learned, we’ve shifted focus from the live music [and] tech industry’s emphasis on promotion and event notification in favor of becoming the frictionless avenue to real physical, novel, and memorable experiences.”
