Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer isn’t kidding around when it comes to mobile. She’s so serious about focusing on it that she wants to cut Yahoo’s mobile apps from 60 to about 12, a reduction of 80 percent.

Mayer indicated her wishes at today’s Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco, according to Business Insider.

“You decide what the apps are, and then you migrate apps into each other, and some of the apps go away,” Mayer reportedly said at the conference. “You have to whittle it down. I think 12 to 15 is the right number. Ultimately, you want to not trouble users by making them download and install too many applications, but at the same time many applications are single-purpose.”

Mayer has shown a passion for helping Yahoo improve its mobile presence, with several acquisitions and steady improvements of Yahoo’s important mail applications for iOS and Android.

Yahoo even acquired another mobile-focused team today with its buy of location discovery app Alike. Prior to Yahoo’s purchase of Alike, it acquired Pinterest-like curation tool in January and acquired the team behind video platform OnTheAir in December.
