Martha Stewart tabletsYes, that Martha Stewart. In a conversation with Wired Editor-in-Chief Chris Anderson at the magazine’s business conference today, Stewart declared her love for the iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab — both for consuming media, and for helping to carry on her brand.

“You must invest in the future if you’re going to be in the future,” Stewart said, explaining why she embraces tablets as a whole.

Stewart said she got the idea to create her own iPad app after learning about Wired’s tablet initiative. She worked together with Adobe to develop the app, which took five months to create.

As for an upcoming Android app, she takes a pragmatic approach, “You have to be where the customer is,” she said.

It’s also clear that she’s had a decent amount of experience with tablet hardware. Stewart said she uses her iPad for everything, and she even got the keyboard dock so that it can act more like a computer. She also tested out an early international version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and brought on stage the newer and thinner 10-inch Galaxy Tab.

Why does she like tablets? “Because I don’t want to have a nation of blind people, or myopic people,” she said, referring to the fact that tablet screens are significantly larger than their smartphone brethren. Stewart also said that she wished the iPad had better sound, because she doesn’t want to damage her hearing with headphones. She also noted that the Galaxy Tab is much louder than the iPad.

She praised tablets for allowing the creation of “real magazines” in digital form, but also said that they’re particularly valuable because they let you see much more than the printed page.
