Hulu wants to hire Agent 47 for a hit … TV series. Developer IO Interactive has made a dead with production company Fox 21 and the Hulu streaming series to create a show based on the Hitman video game series, as Deadline first reported. John Wick creator Derek Kolstad is writing the pilot script, and it’s still in early preproduction. Hulu has not announced a release date or who will play the bald assassin.
Hitman is a long-running video game franchise. It has players taking on the role of Agent 47 as he figures out ways to use the environment and an assortment of tools and weapons to eliminate his targets. The series debuted in 2000 with Hitman: Codename 47, and IO Interactive most recently launched Hitman (2016) last year. Earlier this year, publisher Square Enix separated from IO and worked out a deal to let the developer retain the rights to the series. That led up to this current deal with Hulu.
The Deadline report also says that IO Interactive is working on two new Hitman games. It previously confirmed that a new Hitman is coming.
The series is not new to the film medium. In 2007, Leon: The Professional director Luc Besson produced Hitman starring Justified‘sTimothy Olyphant as Agent 47. In 2015 ,the series returned under director Aleksander Bach with Homeland‘s Rupert Friend taking the Agent 47 role.

Fox 21, Hulu, and IO Interactive have not shared any details regarding the story or structure of the new series. The 2016 Hitman game, however, featured an episodic release format that had Agent 47 traveling around the globe and slowly uncovering a mystery. It seems like something that would have potential to work as a TV program, and now we’ll get to see if that happens.
