Anyone looking at Twitter or news aggregation sites recently knows there’s been a crazy amount of buzz about Google Wave, the new communication and collaboration service that Google is letting 100,000 people preview today. For example, it’s been one of the top two or three topics on Twitter for the last day or so.

Now Trendrr, a service that tracks a wide range of online data, is sharing some numbers showing how much Wave interest spiked.

Since Sept. 17, the number of tweets about Wave has increased by about 20 times, from an average of 821 per day to nearly 17,000 per day. Trendrr has also measured 27,671 new blog posts about Wave in the last couple of weeks (there had already been 277,859), and 452 news articles. That interest is particularly impressive since Google isn’t really announcing anything new about Wave, and most people who requested invites are still waiting.

Google Trends is also showing an increase in the number of people searching for Google Wave, but not as dramatic a spike.
