SoonR, the mobile-to-PC company, raises $4 million

SoonR, the noteworthy Campbell start-up that lets you access your desktop from a mobile phone, and then lets you do things like make Skype calls, has raised more than $4 million in a first round of funding, led by Clearstone Venture Partners.

We talked with chief executive Martin Frid-Nielsen a few days ago. He said the company may raise more money (and has the option to raise at least $2 million more under his current deal)but hasn’t decided exactly when. He said he is glad he waited on taking money from venture capitalists. When he first talked with some a year or so ago, they hadn’t been too receptive. They’d encouraged him to build on a Java/J2ee platform, but his team preferred AJAX. “We’re glad we didn’t listen,” he said. Instead, he opted at that time to take money from a few angels, including the Rogers family (of Rogers Communications) and Thomson family, both of Canada.

SoonR already lets you search your desktop with things like the Google and X1 desktop search functions. It is also now supporting MSN search and MS Outlook search.
