Pinger, a San Jose start-up that lets you send mobile voice messages to email, has $8 million more in venture backing, according to Gigaom. The latest round of funding includes previous backer Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, and new investor DAG Ventures. John Cadeddu from DAG led the investment, according to the report.

It amazes me that a feature of a unified communications system attracts so much money ($11M in total so far?). Where is the catch? How is this going to generate $100M for Kleiner Perkins? What is the technological or marketing barrier? Are we back in 1999?
