Pixtronix, which makes low power displays for mobile devices, raises cash

Pixtronix , a Wilmington, Mass. maker of lower power displays for mobile devices, has raised an undisclosed amount of capital from DAG Ventures and existing bakers Atlas Venture and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

New investors Gold Hill Capital and GF Private Equity Group LLC also participated, according to VentureWire (sub required):

The company’s technology, which is currently in development phase, uses digital micro shutters which open and close to allow pixel-sized combinations of red, yellow and blue lighting to be displayed on the screen. This saves power compared to traditional thin film transistor displays, which use white light, but filter out the unnecessary colors before the light reaches the display, [chief executive Nesbitt] Hagood said.
