Grockit, a San Francisco company that helps students prepare for tests online, has raised $2.3 million of a planned $2.7 million first round of capital, according to a regulatory filing cited by PE Wire.
Benchmark Capital led the deal, with Mitch Lasky taking a board seat.
We bumped into Grockit founder Farbood Nivi a few months ago, and he told us he was about raise funding for his project. He’s been teaching exam prep for Kaplan since 1998. Grockit will use WebEx to provide a less-expensive alternative for test takers (costing $399, compared to the more expensive tests provided by Kaplan, running at more than $1,000).
