Validus DC Systems raises $10M for datacenter efficiency

Validus DC Systems, based in Brookfield, Connecticut, is attempting to sell datacenters on using DC (direct current) power, rather than the AC (alternating current) standard by which electricity is transmitted long distances from power stations.

Over very short distances, DC power tends to be more efficient than AC. As datacenters and telecommunication facilities are extremely power-hungry, requiring massive amounts of electricity to run, Validus can help save a significant amount of power. The company says its solutions can increase energy efficiency by up to 40 percent.

The $10 million round is the company’s first full funding, provided by Oak Hill Venture Partners.
