Xirrus raises $26M for enterprise WiFi

Xirrus is a Westlake Village, Calif. company that makes a WiFi router that it says can replace ethernet workgroup switches.

Generally speaking, hard-wired switches are required for work groups, due to high bandwidth requirements and security needs. Xirrus claims its replacement results in lower costs and less equipment.

The $26 million funding was led by Canaan Partners. Also participating were U.S. Venture Partners, August Capital, QuestMark Partners and the company’s CEO, Dirk Gates.
