Sony Ericsson partners with GetJar to build app store

Why build an app store from scratch? Sony Ericsson’s upcoming app store, dubbed the PlayNow arena, will feature more than 45,000 free apps cataloged by GetJar. The apps, which cover 38 phone models in 13 countries, are a mix of Java and Symbian flavors. Sony Ericsson seems eager to avoid missing the current buzz over app stores. Instead of a solid date, PlayNow is said to be “imminent.” The company will begin accepting new apps for review on July 1.
