iPhone tethering instructions are easy

iphonetether2Apple’s new iPhone 3G S is a huge hit, but it has one frustrating restriction: AT&T doesn’t support “tethering” the phone to a laptop for use as a cellular modem. But Cleve Nettles at 9 to 5 Mac has solved the dilemma. He’s posted a tethering tutorial for connecting an iPhone to an Apple laptop for use as a cellular modem.

It’s comically easy. But I don’t have a laptop to test it with. Have you gotten tethering to work? Let us know in the comments or just email me.

  • works! using it now, it does disable your visual voicemail but I am sure that will be addressed shortly. The speeds are great and it was comically easy to do.

I have a 3G iphone but I went into settings then general then network but no tethering came up. I uploaded latest version 3.0 and still the same as last time I upgraded. I now have more apps etc.

I even re booted. Still same.

If this ever does work to use iPhone as modem, what's this about warning it can cost me through AT &T?

I'm paying for cell and 3G stick just 1 GIG but iPhone is 6 GIGS. Fido(system I'm with over since they born) and they(
fido) suggested go to nearest Apple Kiosk(?) to fix/set up iPhone as modem tether it.

I'm not much on computer and very busy lots to learn no time. Just need this accomplished...
