DEMO: Piryx wants to be a payments platform for politics, non-profits

piryxPiryx says PayPal’s not enough.

The Austin-based startup is a commerce platform for non-profits and political organizations and says there needs to be a company that focuses exclusively on the space. Like PayPal, the website is integrated with online banking software: when users sign up, they’ll enter in their bank account and routing numbers.

But it also provides a layer of services on top of that. The company says candidates, political action committees, donors, voters, and sellers need a one-stop shop to conduct commerce online. Local government officials can maintain their contacts while non-profits can raise money on the site and engage in SMS marketing efforts. Piryx also makes it easier to file compliance reports on fundraising efforts by putting them in the same space.

Piryx will also partner with outsider developers to sell third-party apps that rest on the platform. The startup is seeking a first round of venture funding.
