Fresh from its $900 million legal settlement with Samsung
An International Trade Commission judge ruled that Nvidia had violated three of five patents in a case Rambus brought regarding its memory technology. Rambus filed the suit in November, 2008, seeking to stop the import of infringing products. Rambus wants Nvidia to pay royalties to license its patents. Rambus has had a rocky and contentious history of litigation related to its patents, but things are starting to go its way. Earlier this week, Samsung settled all litigation and agreed to pay Rambus a total of $900 million over time.
Other companies named in the Rambus complaint include Asustek Computer, Asus Computer International, BFG Technologies, Biostar Microtech and Biostar Microtech International, Diablotek, EVGA Corp., G.B.T. , Giga-Byte Technology, Hewlett-Packard, MSI Computer, Micro-Star International, Palit Multimedia, Palit Microsystems, Pine Technology Holdings and Sparkle Computer.
Nvidia can appeal the decision to the full ITC, and the company said it would do so today.
