HauteLook, part of a growing wave of "private sale" websites, just announced raising a $31 million third round of funding.
Los Angeles-based HauteLook holds 48-hour sales for its members, with items including men's and women's clothing, accessories, children's clothing, toys, and more. The site launched in December 2007 and has more than 2.5 million members.
The round was led by previous investor Insight Venture Partners. Among other things, HauteLook says it will spend the new money on adding categories like gourmet food and wine. The company has raised $41 million total.
There seems to be plenty of venture money flowing into this industry, with the Gilt Groupe raising $35 million last month. Startups are taking the concept into fresh categories, too. A private sale site aimed at moms called Zulily launched earlier this year.
