Touchdown, Yingli Solar. The Chinese company has completed the installation of a solar power system at the headquarters of the New York Jets headquarters in New Jersey.
The installation covers the rooftops at the NFL team’s headquarters and training center (pictured below). It uses 3,000 of Yingli’s photovoltaic panels and is designed to generate 750,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
The solar system should save “tens of thousands of dollars” per year in electricity costs, according to the press release, and it expected to cut carbon emissions by 540 metric tons each year. The Jets entered into a long-term power purchase agreement in which it will buy all of the power generated by the system.

The Chinese company is also associating its name with an undeniably all-American institution -– football. As Reuters notes, Yingli is jostling in an increasingly crowded solar space. Teaming with a big brand like the Jets should help boost name recognition with consumers.
“We are excited to have formed a long-term partnership with the New York Jets, and to align our brand with the most popular sport in America,” said Robert Petrina, managing director of Yingli Green Energy Americas.
SunDurance Energy was chosen for the turnkey design and construction; Evolution Energies was the project developer, and the system is owned by Syncarpha Capital.
