Tagged has acquired location-based social discovery app Urbantag, a move to help the popular social network for meeting new people make more inroads in mobile networking.
Urbantag is Tagged’s fifth acquisition, following the 2011 purchases of hi5, Digsby, TopicMarks, and WeGame. Thanks to the acquisitions, the Tagged network now claims more than 300 million members worldwide.
“Urbantag’s expertise is a perfect complement to Tagged’s product efforts as we are working on taking mobile to the next level and digging deeper into local,” Tagged CEO Greg Tseng told VentureBeat via email. “[Urbantag CEO] Andrew Hoag’s mobile savvy matched with [Urbantag co-founder] Emma Van Niekerk’s design prowess make the team a perfect fit for Tagged.”
Tagged and Urbantag did not reveal terms of the deal.
San Francisco-based Tagged recently raised $15 million in new funding led by Lighthouse Capital Partners and Comerica Bank, bringing the company’s total funding to $23.7 million.
