Walmart will soon begin selling the awesome Boxee TV set-top box in more than 3,000 stores across the U.S., a move that will help Boxee get in front of lots of new customers this holiday season.
We wrote about the Boxee TV and its insane, unlimited cloud DVR a few weeks back, and we think it has a lot of potential.
The $99 Boxee TV will go on sale in Walmart stores and online tomorrow. Boxee CEO Avner Ronen told us earlier this month that Walmart will heavily promote and display the device in stores.
Boxee is betting the company on the Boxee TV, and it hopes to generate meaningful revenue from its cloud DVR service because the hardware itself won’t be profitable. The DVR service will cost users $15 per month.
New York City-based Boxee was founded in 2007 and has raised $26.5 million from investors including Union Square Ventures, General Catalyst Partners, SoftBank Capital, Pitango Venture Capital, and Spark Capital.
